September in the UK always feels like the start of a new year in the image business. There certainly is that “Back to School” feeling as we come back from our holidays, the weather changes and there are lots of new clothes in the shops!
It is also a time to re-assess what has worked in your business over the past few months so that you can maximise the opportunities of the autumn/winter season. September and October are the perfect months to reconnect with your existing clients: – organise a style workshop, a make-up experience, offer a promotion on your wardrobe and shopping services and then tell people about it – email them, send a newsletter or call them, and if appropriate ask them to bring a friend!
If you like presenting, contact local women’s groups and offer your services as a speaker – you only need to talk fro 20 – 30 minutes and you could include a demonstration in that time as well. Talks and workshops are the perfect way to share what we do with lots of people and a fantastic way of finding new clients. Contact PTAs, WI groups, NCT classes, church groups, gyms, choirs, weight management classes – the list is endless,,,,
Book in to attend a couple of networking events – do some research and find the groups that would be relevant for your target market. If your ideal clients are female entrepreneurs then Athena, WIBN or Entrepreneurs Circle would be perfect. You can usually visit these types of groups a couple of times before you have to commit to becoming a member. So book some dates in your diary NOW!
Check out this season’s fashion trends in magazines and online and then in mid September take the opportunity to spend a few hours in the shops looking at the variety of clothes and styles that are available for both you and your clients.
Go through your own wardrobe and decide what items you want to add to your collection – make a list so that you can concentrate on finding these key pieces first.
Start planning a Christmas Gift Voucher Promotion – people will always be on the look out for a special present – what could you offer and how can you promote it? Another idea that works well is to link up with your local newspaper and offer a free consultation as a competition prize and then get the paper to photograph the winner with some before and after shots – all great publicity. Or offer to transform a local “celebrity” &/or person who has been in the news.
Can you attend any school fairs or Paper Evenings? Avoid offering Colour Analysis sessions – perhaps offer 20 – 30 minute style consultations instead. Also include a time limited offer to all attendees – which could be a discount on your services or a free lipstick with every colour consultation? Plus ALWAYS offer yourself as a raffle prize!
These are just a few ideas to help you kick-start your business this autumn AND keep your clients coming back again and again.
