I have to admit, I’m not a great believer in New Year Resolutions especially when they involve depriving me of food or drink in one of the coldest months of the year – doomed to failure!
But when it comes to business that’s easier because the beginning of January does of course feel like a fresh start – we are hopefully rested after the Christmas break and raring to put our plans into action.
Over the past couple of years I have followed the advice of a business mentor, who recommended choosing one word to sum up how you want your business/life to be during the year ahead. In the past my words have included “action”, “growth” and “focus”.
This year it is going to be “simplicity”. My first actions are going to be streamlining my systems and processes so that I can be more effective – allowing me to serve my consultants and clients better.
I have already started clearing my office – re-cycling 12 bin bags of paper just before Christmas!! The de-cluttering process has continued in the rest of the house – I have been practising what I preach and I have sorted my wardrobe – the loft is next!!
It is amazing that just by doing something so simple my head already feels clearer and more focussed.
This simplicity goal is a work in progress and I will continue to report back during the year.
So the only question left to answer is:
What is your word for 2015?!
