You might not think that the image business is similar to the legal profession or accountancy – indeed that may be one of the reasons you are considering it in the first place – but like anything in life, a firm grounding in the principles and theory will then provide a great base for your creative talents. You wouldn’t consider becoming a teacher or a swimming instructor without training, and our business is no different. There are rules and tried and tested methods which have developed over the years, drawing on the experience and expertise of numerous image consultants.

This is a people business full of colour and interactivity. Don’t be tempted into thinking you can leaf through a couple of books and become an expert.

To run a successful business you will need to attract clients, and these clients will demand to see some level of formal training to give them the confidence to use your services. Once you have trained you will want to add new skills and ensure that you are up to date with the latest techniques – ours is a rapidly changing business – so don’t underestimate the benefits that topping up your training can give you by keeping clients coming back for more.

If you are in a related business – maybe coaching, beauty or fashion – image training can help add value to your business, giving you a competitive edge and building customer loyalty as well as developing a lucrative new income stream.
