Boots for every occasion
It maybe cold and wet outside but one of the best things about Autumn/Winter is the excuse to go and buy a new pair of boots (or two!) Boots are fantastic for the practical reasons of keeping our feet warm and dry but they can add incredible style to our outfits. You should start to build up a boot “library” – a selection of different styles that can be worn for different occasions. A pair of boots should last for at least 3 winters if you care for them correctly.
Due to my dodgy feet I don’t wear many skirts because I can’t wear very high heels (2”max), however a great pair of flattish knee-high boots work a treat with dresses and skirts as they elongate my legs in a way that ballet pumps could never do! Fabric pull-on knee-high boots with a kitten heel are perfect for slinky dresses and more formal pencil-type skirts. Whereas chunky, knee-high boots work brilliantly with shorter casual skirts and thick tights, as well as with leggings and a tunic.
Boots for skinny jeans
If your legs are long and slim you could also tuck your skinny jeans into a pair of knee-highs. BUT if you have full hips/thighs and want to wear skinny jeans, a pair of mid-calf “Ugg” type boots can work wonders at balancing out your hips.
Ankle boots are an indispensable item of your winter wardrobe – buy a neutral coloured pair that will work with most of your wardrobe. You can choose from smooth leather to wear with smart trousers through to suede and chunky with lots of buckles. Heels can be flat, kitten, Cuban or wedge just match the length of your trousers with the correct heel height.
For a real treat why not invest in something frivolous and fun that will make you feel fantastic everytime you wear them – try LK Bennett for inspiration. However if you have proportionately short legs be careful because every design detail on your boots could shorten your legs even more!!
Go out this weekend, pull on your boots and enjoy kicking the last of those autumn leaves!
